Artistry: Cultivating our latest perfume Editions

Blossoms of a Bergamot tree in our Collection

Every parterre fragrance has an edition number, to match the harvest of perfume ingredients we grow. We have been working on our Third and Fourth Editions, reflecting our developing skill in producing rare ingredients solely for our own perfumes.

Since 2016 we are pleased to say that Parterre has trialled, cultivated, distilled and refined 40 different perfume ingredients. Over the years we go through trial stages with small distillations, through to full production. Plants range from a field of flowers, to a handful of trees or specialist mediterranean and sub-tropical plants.

Each of the 40 Ingredients or notes have their own unique history, cultivation method and distillation process.

Distillation of herbaceous plants in our large Still

Precious Iris (aka Orris) – which take 7 years from planting to perfume ingredient – is now ready for harvesting, before we dry and distill the rhizomes for a future perfume.

Persian Wild Carrot is a biennial where we take the seeds every other year and distill them for their spicy scent. After maturing, the powdery-scented oil will go into The Hour of Dusk and Gold perfume.

Tuberose extraction using the old fashioned method of Enfleurage

We are now working hard on some future signature ingredients, including Tuberose and Labdanum. Two ingredients so rich in a history that includes religious ceremonies in ancient Egypt, to a ban in Victorian times for being too raunchy.
