Vetiver is a grass, native to India and cultivated widely in the Tamila Nadu region.

It is the roots that are the key to its importance as they grow extensive and fibrous, and have been used traditionally to make matting, window blinds, baskets and even roofing thatch.

But our interest is in the oil within these roots. Revered for its calming properties, the scent when extracted, is woody, deep and a little bit sweet with a comforting warmth. 

In perfume, Vetiver combines beautifully with citrus notes and is a wonderful stable fixative, providing longevity to fragrances.  

Vetiver is normally grown in tropical climates – Haiti, Java and Reunion Island being the main suppliers of oil. We believe we are the only people to cultivate Vetiver in the UK for perfume.  This is not surprising as nowadays it is normally grown in tropical Haiti and Java, and our initial trial was very much an experiment.  It turned out to be a very successful one, to everyone’s surprise, and our Vetiver oil is a key ingredient in our perfume, Root of all Goodness.
