The creative and experimental home of Parterre Fragrances, Keyneston Mill is the largest private botanic gardens in the country dedicated solely to aromatic and scented plants – over 2000 varieties in a 50-acre estate. Here the key ingredients of Parterre perfumes are grown, harvested and distilled.
THE WORLD OF KEYNESTON MILL
Keyneston Mill Botanic Gardens lie in the Tarrant Valley, bordered by the River Stour, the 18th Century mill house at the heart of the estate. The gardens feature plants from the principal perfume families. Beautiful and gloriously scented, these gardens are also practical trial beds. The surrounding Crop Fields form a patchwork of colour in summer – the vital botanical ingredients, exclusively for inclusion in Parterre perfumes. The gardens are free to enter. We host garden tours every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday,
The newly designed formal gardens, have been inspired by art, from Renaissance Italy to 21st Century painters & sculptors.

Each year the horticultural team embark on a mission of discovery – an expedition to discover new plants and research growing techniques. On return to England, the adventure continues with experimentation and trialling of the plants – any might become future ingredients in Parterre perfumes and you can see the work in progress at Keyneston Mill.
The key ingredients for all Parterre Fragrances are grown, harvested and distilled at Keyneston Mill and this process leads to extracts which then become the key notes in the Parterre fragrances. You can find out more by visiting Keyneston Mill, or join us for a Workshop and get involved in the process yourself.
